Milestones & Achievements

 

Since the inauguration of the Ilm-O-Hunar program in 2004, we have celebrated many ‘firsts’ however big or small. Although basic in nature, these simple achievements have had a life changing impact on the community itself. The women and children benefitting from the program swear by the new found confidence the program has provided them to change their own lives.

 

To date: More than 1500 students have benefitted from the program. 25 students have completed Matric from and 6 students have completed Intermediate from the Ilm-O-Hunar school.

 

2004 – Program launched with an initial enrolment of 50 students - A door to door needs assessment was carried out in Lyaari, Karachi for an education program. The key questions asked were; Is there a desire to educate girls and young adults in a non-formal set up, if yes – how can their learning be complemented through real world skills, what vocational trades will enable the females a gainful earning. The survey culminated in set up of the program with an initial enrolment of 50 students.

 

2007 – Students of the vocational training program display their artefacts at the Saqafat Bazaar in Karachi.

 

2009 – Students of Ilm-o-Hunar students bag the first prize in Theater performance at the Karachi Youth Festival.

 

2010 – Home School Program Launched – With a vision to bring literacy within one’s door step, SSSS launched a home literacy program in the year 2010 where school alumni took up the cause of setting home class rooms focused on neighbourhoods.

 

2011 – Select students participate in a radio workshop training program coordinated by UKS research (http://www.uksresearch.com/).
