I'm running a Home School
Humaira Ali
Humaira 24, lives in a small hut in a narrow lane in Lyari along with her six brothers and sisters. She missed her childhood schooling due to poverty as her parents could not afford to pay for her school.
Today with the help of SSS, she has become an independent and productive member of her society. Not only has she completed her 10th grade, she has learned vocational skills that are allowing her to continue her studies and support her extended family. With education and training at SSSS Ilm-o-hunar centre, she has gained a new found confidence and respect within her family as well as her neighborhood.
With more say in the society, she has set up a ‘home school’ in her house teaching a small unit of young children within her community with the hope of changing the future of her community.
Tahira Siddique
Tahira is training to become a beautician and with support from SSS is in the process of setting up her own beauty clininc. Six years ago when she joined Ilm-o-hunar school, she was a bright young girl who had resigned to her destiny of staying at home until married off.
When SSSS team from Ilm-o-Hunar school discovered her, she felt it was the last chance for her to relaise her dream. For this she took a bold stance with her family and with assurance from SSSS management and growing reputation in the community, she was allowed to start studying and learn makeup.
Today at age 24, she is planning to do her B.A. with specialization in English language teaching in addition to setting up the beauty clinic.
